With his old school friend Peter Wheeler he started Camden Lock in 1971. Their company, Northside Developments Ltd, survived economic recessions, a proposed motorway and 1970s bland urban planning to turn a derelict timber yard into a Times RICS award winning development that spearheaded the economic and cultural revivial of Camden Town.
Thirty seven years later, with Bill and Peter still at the helm, Camden Lock is considered the benchmark for mixed-use, niche independent / market retail development.
